Choosing the Perfect Christmas Tree: A Guide to Your Favorite Varieties
Here in Oregon, Christmas trees are more than just a holiday tradition—they’re something we grow with care all year long. At Deep Creek Tree Farms, we’re proud to be part of that process, offering locally grown trees shaped by our region’s mild climate and rich soil. From planting and shaping to years of steady growth, each tree is carefully tended before it ever makes its way into your home for the holidays.
Noble Fir
Noble Fir trees are a longtime favorite, and it’s easy to see why. They’re known for their strong, sturdy branches that are perfect for holding heavier ornaments, along with their classic shape and rich blue-green color. The needles are soft to the touch and tend to stay on the tree well, making them a great choice if you like to decorate early and keep your tree up through the season. Noble Firs also have a clean, subtle fragrance that feels fresh without being overpowering. This is far and away our best selling variety.
Nordmann Fir
Nordmann Firs are a wonderful option for those looking for a softer, more refined look. Their deep green needles are glossy and incredibly soft, making them especially nice for homes with kids or pets. These trees are known for excellent needle retention, so they tend to stay full and beautiful with minimal shedding. With their elegant shape and long-lasting freshness, Nordmann Firs are a great choice for a low-maintenance holiday centerpiece.
Grand Fir
If you’re looking for that classic Christmas tree scent, Grand Firs are hard to beat. They have a strong, citrusy fragrance that instantly fills your home with the feeling of the holidays. Their needles are soft and lush, giving the tree a full, welcoming appearance. Grand Firs are perfect for those who love the experience of a real tree—from the scent to the look—bringing a cozy, traditional feel to any space.
Douglas Fir
Douglas Firs are one of the most popular Christmas trees in the Pacific Northwest, and for good reason. They have a full, bushy shape with soft needles that range from bright green to slightly bluish tones. These trees are known for their sweet, classic holiday fragrance and their ability to fill out a room beautifully. Douglas Firs are a great all-around choice for families looking for a timeless, traditional Christmas tree.
🌱 Pro Tip: To keep your Christmas tree fresh and beautiful, make a fresh cut at the base before placing it in water, and keep the stand filled at all times—trees can drink more than you might expect, especially in the first few days. Keeping your tree away from heat sources like vents or fireplaces will also help it stay hydrated and hold its needles longer.
